Peristiwa Rengasdengklok

Peristiwa Rengasdengklok menunjuk pada peristiwa penculikan Soekarno dan Hatta ke Kota kecil Rengasdengklok (dekat karawang jawa barat). Penculikan itu dilakukan oleh kalangan pemuda , dalam rangka mempercepat tanggal proklamasi kemerdekaan Indonesia.Penyebab utama peristiwa Rengasdengklok adalah perbedaan sikap antara kalangan tua dan muda. Perbedaan itu mengenai kapan saat yang tepat untuk memproklamasikan kemerdekaan.


* Sikap Kalangan Tua

Pihak yang disebut kalangan tua adalah anggota PPKI. Tokoh yang menonjol dalam kalangan ini adalah Ir Soekarno dan Moh. Hatta mengenai tanggal proklamasi kemerdekaan, kalangan tua cenderung menyesuaikan diri dengan ketentuan pemerintahan militer jepang, yakni tanggal 24 agustus.


* Golongan Muda

Pihak yang disebut kalangan muda adalah para maha siswa dan anggota PETA. Mereka memiliki sikap radikal mengenai proklamasi kemerdekaan sikap radikal itu disepakati secara bulat dalam rapat di salah satu ruang lembaga bakterialogi di pegangsaan timur, jakarata , malam hari tgl 15 agustus 1945
